It’s just very jarring on something that purports to be a news channel. In the same way Peston running a viewer competition would be.
I think it would be probably be better if they ran the competition during the commercial break slots and separated it entirely from programmes. But then they risk less people seeing it and bringing in as many entries.
Talking of cheapening the output, on Sunday (and I’m not sure if it was the case before) they ran a QR code inviting people to vote for Farage in the jungle and yesterday they had a Countdown timer for those awaiting his return.
Anyway, the new set didn’t launch yesterday evening after all.
