The argument isn’t about that.
It comes about because people see someone GB News that they don’t like, usually saying it’s not what a “news channel” should be doing, and then go on to suggest OFCOM ought to be looking at it for that reason. In this most recent discussion it’s because of phone in competitions. And the point is, there is no legal situation whereby a “news channel” cannot run phone in competitions, (outside of actual regulated news content), because there is no legal status of “news channel”.
One could certainly argue that a phone in competition isn’t something one would like to see on a news channel, but that in itself is not an OFCOM matter.
