Interesting reading some of the analysis here.. as a 36 year old I never thought I’d stop listening to Radio 1, but when Scott Mills made the move last year I gave Radio 2 a chance and I actually haven’t stopped listening since. I guess it’s because it strikes all the right nostalgic chords with me that remind me of the Radio 1 I fell in love with all those years ago, I enjoy the longer news bulletins and as a commuter I find the traffic updates really handy. I have to admit I still struggle with some of the shows and turn back to Radio 1 occasionally, but most of the time it’s R2 for me now. Because of work I’ve not really listened to Ken much, but what I heard was good, but he did increasingly feel a little mis-placed against some of the rest of the daytime line-ups. I wonder if he saw the writing was on the wall and he jumped before he was pushed.
Will be interesting to see who might take over - presumably it’ll be a trusted pair of hands already at R2, but time will tell.
