Seems strange that Newcastle can't manage to stay on air in some form - don't they have two studios still?

I think it's the first time Newcastle has featured on HD. Usually it rotates between three regions, Midlands, Yorks & Lincs and North West. Presumably now Nightlight and BBC One HD (England) are now sharing network pres during regional opts, we may see other regions being featured.

Newcastle does have a second (very small) studio but I don't think it is usable at short notice - i.e., has a set and equipment in - in the same way that Southampton's Studio B is (or certainly was).
This seems to be planned maintenance though? Surely they have to decamp for the annual lighting grid inspection - if nothing else their DTL position could be used?

I'm fact Given that it was pre-planned it wouldn't have been impossible to use Leeds's pres gallery and either Leeds or Newcastle DTL studio to do a bulletin for the NE while Yorkshire comes from their main studio and gallery?

Interesting to see that Bridlington in the Weather forecast somehow managed to relocate to the middle of the North Sea for the entire forecast.

Politics North this morning broadcast on BBC 1HD by looks of things in SD and if there was an attempt to upscale to HD it wasn't worth the bother!

I'm speculating here that the reason why Politics North NE&C went out on HD/Nightlight is that Newcastle have no access to the playout this weekend, so it's being played out by network instead.

Although Bridlington seemed to have fallen off the weather map on the forecast:

The upscaling of Politics North was pretty good on BBC One HD to be fair. An improvement on PN from Leeds with the vaseline smeared lenses.

Apparently the temporary merged bulletins are happening during breakfast as well tomorrow morning.

This means it’ll be a 3 way join as breakfast is already Leeds and Hull combined

Therefore, tomorrow morning the weather map place names will vary from Carlisle to King's Lynn.
