Some new news sets, in particular, have been noticeably badly lit in the past few years - I suspect it's partly down to people not used to the brightness of the newer LED videowalls, but there have been a few where the background-foreground balance has been so off - when Wales Today's current studio launched I was absolutely shocked by the quality of the lighting. I mean, say what you will about the rinky-dink news studios back at TVC, but at least they were always well lit (I guess N9 did get a bit dark in the World's later years in there, though I understand this was a bit more managed decline than a poor lighting director).
