It's a show I think UKTV would commission for Gold, but I can't see it being on any of the main channels.

Of course it must be remembered John Cleese "revived" Basil Fawlty a few years ago:

So I'd be inclined to suggest any "Fawlty Towers 2" would probably look like that, if Cleese is featuring in it.

I honestly think it's best left well alone.

No broadcaster being attached is usually a clue that it's not going to happen.

I think it should be too big a show to turn down not to happen, even if it’s a massive flop initial interest would justify any commission.

Could also end up being a movie.

The article sayds "Castle Rock Entertainment announced on Tuesday it had closed a deal with Cleese to bring back the television series, but it's not yet clear which channel or streaming service it would appear on."

Now we can work out that Castle Rock Entertainment itself is ultimately owned by Discovery, who have fingers in HBO and obviously the entire Discovery TV network, but none of these outlets (including Discovery+) would be a suitable outlet for this project.

Netflix or Amazon Prime is the most likely destination, considering the US has had three stabs at a version of Fawlty Towers over the years and none of them lasted to any great degree. And if it isn't successful Amazon can write it down as a loss, as they're not short of money.

John Cleese clearly needs the dosh if he's decided to bring back Fawlty Towers.

I can't help but think of the one off episode of Are You Being Served or the reboot of Yes Prime Minister. Fawlty Towers II won't work in 2023.
