It's very frustrating the BBC have not paid more attention to approving the AppleTV for UHD. It's literally been years in development and with no timeframe as to when it'll happen!

The BBC and Apple seem to have a rather fraught relationship. They still don't have BBC Radio stations on the HomePod for example.

Now you mention it, that’s also very annoying, though easily resolved using airplay.

Anyone know why Radio 1 is still the only radio station on iPlayer? There are enough stations that produce video content in 2022.

Very much a wild stab in the dark but do Apple perhaps see BBC Radio (well, the music stations) as a competitor to their own Apple Music stations? I remember them making a big deal out of poaching Zane Lowe from the Beeb when they launched those stations.

Noticed on the Fire TV Cube that the regional programmes on catch-up are now only 704x396 rather than upscaled to qHD at 960x540. Still 50fps though.

HD programmes almost instantly play at 1920x1080 with no change to live streams at 720p or 540p for BBC One English Regions, Parliament, Alba, S4C etc.

I wonder why they've done that? 960x540 wasn't upscaled, BTW - it's actually just below native SD resolution once you account for the differences in pixel aspect ratio.

Why have they gone for 960x540 and not 1024x576p ?

On the browser version of iPlayer, I'm still getting 960x540 for regional VOD.

More downtime for iPlayer earlier. Apparently all back to normal now.
