I get having channels with things like cartoons or gameshows where it doesn't particularly matter at what point you tune in as you're just getting a fix without wanting to work through a boxset, but surely with Louis Theroux docs you'd want to pick the ones you want to watch on demand rather than watch one at random.

It just seems the opposite of how TV should be going, Linear tv should be going away, and your picking what you want to watch when, like you said.

But even now there's people who just like to put a channel on and sit back, rather than spend ages scrolling through stuff.

Having "channels" should bridge the gap between linear TV and on-demand TV, by having a "channel" that pretends its a linear output, but on an on-demand basis.
Of course it could go too far the other way and we end up with channels for every single programme, though might have to draw the line at In The Night Garden Channel

EastEnders helped by having the episode drop on iPlayer first before the linear airing which isn't until 7.30pm.
Mrs Brown's Boys adds another 500k-700k to their linear ratings, which is pretty decent for an older skewing sitcom.

Yes, people who shout about EastEnders' demise look at the linear ratings, but with EastEnders dropping on iPlayer the morning of broadcast, plus the broadcast clashing with Emmerdale, a lot of people will be watching it on there, I certainly do most days.
