The aim is they are specifically focused on the one story and used across all channels. They've been fairly good at doing that from the ones I've seen - certainly one aspect of the relaunch that has been better than expected, with some of mine and other's early scepticism about them ageing badly. That said, and while I do understand they are designed as multi-media streams on one story, I do think that when they do run for hours on end or cover live events that are delayed, there is some justification for throwing in a short summary of other news during quiet bits.
BBC "World" were running the Junior Doctors story too with much more panache/presentational flair in some circumstances, while also covering important stories like Biden in Northern Ireland.
Doesn't the single story news stream concept just mean a smaller team covering the same story with fewer resources? To boot it's alienating viewers that aren't interested in that story at all. Not a good fit for a news channel imo.
