Someone on here (I think it was @DTV) suggested that if a radio show had to be visualised for the news channel, it should have been PM rather than Nicky Campbell. I think if it were produced in that style you suggest, they could be on to a winner. I like your idea for the combined post-22:30 slot, too.
Imagine the 'breaking' team supplementing 5Live content with visuals and lives; less world news and perhaps a new 5Live/TV post 2230 show that looks at tomorrow's news -like top rating the papers slot. That would make more sense to me for UK broadcasting than the frankenstein channel we have now
PM and Today from Radio 4 would be excellent alternatives for the simulcast option which would allow for breaking news to be handled much easier than how they handled the Sunak speech this morning.
