It is sad though, but should it end someone's career? He's no different to MPs that have bought products from such vendors or used the odd brass.
However, I worked in HR for many years and every organisation has a code of conduct. If you breach that, then your employment ends. Nothing to do with judgements of morality, it's effectively just breaching your 'written particulars of employment'.
Nothing is ever made public as that would breach GDPR.
