I'm never sure what's most surprising about the dodgy Newsnight simulcast - that it has remained this long or somebody thought it was a good idea in the first place. Though, I guess it's not the only or most prominent example of the 'sure, that'll do' attitude to how the channel should work.
I still stand by my view that, if sticking to simulcasts, a Reporting Scotland, Wales Today, Newsline triple bill would be a better use of the 22:30 slot. For most viewers, it's an actual alternative; devolved political and policy stories are undercovered on UK-wide news anyway; and surely an easy of meeting the 'more regional news' obligation (and better than those crappy Around the UK segments).
