The concept is great - I'd never considered the bottom block was a cube, and that's what we'd been seeing inside already. I love the recursion too.
I think there's lots of easter eggs to be found too - I'm sure the 'McCourt's Pickled Pigeon" must be a reference to something. As Roger says, the beach scene has the date of Channel 4's launch - the time is about an hour before their first programme. (The people look a bit underdressed for a British beach in November though!)
Interestingly, the three of the places that are identifiably real are in Glasgow: Pollok House at the 2 minute mark; the 'renaissance painting' at 2.24 (it's this takeaway in the city centre); and at 2.55, my old secondary school.

After a bit more sleuthing, I've worked out where the graveyard is - it's Dunure Cemetery in Ayrshire. (The island of Ailsa Craig on the horizon was a good clue that it was somewhere down the Firth of Clyde.)
