Philip Schofield steps down from This Morning with immediate effect

Unfortunately this thread has now become one of pure speculation, rumour and a running commentary on the tabloids.

Thread closed.

With cinnamon, never chocolate

Genuine news and avoiding quoting the tabloids.  But the ITV situation is developing apace. Aiming to keep this thread for actual developments of ITV Daytime as opposed to
the alleged scandal details.

Daytime isn't the problem, as far as we know. It just This morning and the issues with the Management. Even if they kick out head of daytime, head of ITV and This morning producer, I can't see how much will change this side of xmas in shaking up the formats.

Jeremy Kyle sage will pop up again.

I wouldn't be surprised if ITV bin This Morning and Lorraine and just have GMB on all morning but with different hosts à la NBC and ABC in the states. The 3 brands have so much overlap now anyway. There's barely any difference apart from phone-ins and cookery.

This is not true, the Media Bill enquiry is next week and ITV is one of the broadcaster being questioned, nothing to do with what’s happening with Phillip Schofield.

People are jumping to conclusions again

It was announced LIVE 75mins ago as BREAKING NEWS by Matthew Amroliwala on BBC News as follows:

The Head of ITV has been called to answer questions in front of XYZ committee on 15th June 2023 in relation to allegations that the broadcaster did not exercise adequate duty of care obligations in relation to an alleged relationship between Phillip Schofield and a younger member or staff”, or words to that effect.

BBC News would not announce it as new Breaking News (worded as above) if the announcement hadn’t been fact checked 3 times at least.

It was on the front of the papers this morning and Wootton mentioned it last night

The breaking news but seems to be that the actual CEO is going to attend. Wootton was enraged with fury last night that only a senior executive was scheduled to attend

He demanded she should quit immediately, all 3 of his panel agreed, and his Twitter poll also agreed (although all GB News twitter polls are always >80% in favour of Dan’s personal view)

This Morning will likely survive as a brand because any replacement will likely be the same show from largely the same team under a different name, tarnished with the same brush and just called This Morning by everyone anyway.

It's far from the first storm it has had to weather - indeed dies anyone recall how they handled the Richard Madeley shoplifting accusations and subsequent court case, where he was acquired, in 1994? Was he suspended?

Quite the opposite…he gave regular updates on the case live on the show.

How did that work, surely that risked contempt of court? Or was it completely factual reporting on the arguments of the case like Alex Belfield claimed to give on his case.
