I am guessing this is the reason why shows like The Circle & The Traitors split the production cost across the UK and US versions? If so, is this just a bad business decision by C4 to have not secured a deal like this and just suck up the cost of Rise & Fall themselves?
Not bad business if they can’t find an international production partner. A lot of stars have to align for that to work out and only a handful of shows in this genre have been commissioned like that. I think Rise and Fall was part of C4’s Global Formats Fund so they will get some of the income from any international format sales which they don’t normally get, though I can’t imagine it will sell anywhere after flopping in the UK.
