I seem to recall a few years ago (for Covid?) when the Ten's regional news was extended for the One whilst the English regions had their bulletins shortened the nations opted out of the national news early to retain their programme's length.
The lunch regional may see a time reduction. Within that hour. Its the least watched of the regional output.
At risk of fantasy rota territory I wonder if they might consider keeping the regional news at 1.30pm with global news being covered on the news channel during the opt-out. Then at 1.45pm a sport bulletin could be shown on both BBC One and the News channel. This would potentially then allow the nations to have have a half hour bulletin by not opting back at 1.45pm. Therefore, something along the lines of...
- 1pm National News (BBC One/News)
- 1.30pm Nations/regional news (BBC One), Global News (BBC News)
- 1.45pm Sports bulletin (BBC One England, BBC News), Nations news (Scotland/Wales/NI)
Whilst this would presumably incur some additional costs I can imagine that politically it might have its benefits in the nations. A similar sort of thing could also be considered Mon-Thurs for the Ten. (Especially if they ever needed to axe BBC Scotland channel in future to save costs.)
