Oscar-winning actress and former MP Glenda Jackson has died at the age of 87, her agent has said.
In a statement, Lionel Larner{her agent) said: "Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Award-winning actress and politician, died peacefully at her home in Blackheath, London this morning after a brief illness with her family at her side.
"She recently completed filming The Great Escaper in which she co-starred with Michael Caine."
Her acting career dates back to the 1950s, she was a veteran of the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1960s and in the 1970s she appeared extensively on The Morecambe & Wise Show, and according to IMDb even appeared in an episode of T-Bag in the 1990 Christmas special. Glenda Jackson's appearances on Morecambe & Wise is said to have boosted her acting career and profile - her debut appearance as Cleopatra ("all men are fools and what makes them so is having beauty like what I have got") made Hollywood take note (it says here)
By the 1990s she had jacked acting in to go and sit in the House of Commons, where she remained until 2015, before returning to acting.
Here's a brief low quality snippet of Jackson's first appearance on Morecambe & Wise in 1971 (think it was from the Christmas Special that year?) where she played Cleopatra:
