After a few months, they cut Breakfast down to 09:15 and filled the rest of the old Kilroy slot with 45' pre-recorded daytime stuff. There could have been pre-empting considerations later, but the original extension was cheap cover.
Wasn’t it originally done to make sure Breakfast ended slightly before Lorraine so that people would get drawn in to the next programme instead of switching to ITV, where Lorraine didn’t finish until 9:25?
Out of interest, does anybody recall how they dealt with the 09:00 split between 2004 and 2006 - when Breakfast was extended on BBC One, but before BBC News 24 started opting-out at 08:30?
I do agree, though, that cutting Breakfast back to 09:00 and having an hour Morning Live would make more sense. The last fifteen minutes of Breakfast are a bit of a nothingburger anyway.
