Why does one end up thinking if certain cultural winds aren't against the BBC as a whole. Chameleon would have been implemented in full by now instead of it being just piece by piece.

Not sure about this. While there are undoubtedly many problems and issues that the BBC has which are the fault of or are exacerbated by the government, hostile press or even broader economic climate, I don't really see how this particular case is any of their faults. The BBC were the ones who decided to change their logo on a whim just as a prior rebranding exercise (the rollout of Reith) was near-completion. There was no reason they had to do this, it was a choice that was fully in their control. They are therefore alone responsible for all the costs associated with this change.

Then it comes to the staggered nature of the rebrand. Even if we assume that such a staggered implementation was planned (which I don't really believe), that is again a choice the BBC have made. While there might be financial, practical or political justifications for it - ultimately the cost is the same whenever you do it, the critics will always make a fuss and the rebrand is either necessary or it isn't. The BBC could've gone 'we need this rebrand, so we're doing it', but they chose not to and their prolonged implementation only serves to underline how unnecessary the whole process is.

Plus, of course, we know full well that it wasn't planned as being this staggered as the issues with the BBC One idents alone prove. The slowness, inconsistencies and blindspots of the rebrand are clearly down to incompetent project management on either the part of the BBC or the agencies they've been working with or both. No external opponent is stopping them from changing the digital logos for BBC Weather forecasts or programme endboards - that's a call coming (or not) from inside Broadcasting House.

I'm usually one to sympathise with the difficult positions the BBC are put in by others, but, sorry, this is on them.

Fair points there my learned fellow. Just that it seems to be taking too long in my view to reach that hallowed "100% Complete" status.
