Kirsty Wark and Jo Coburn are the only other presenters who have led proper election coverage (and both would, in my view, be better), but Laura is sort of uncontestably the lead politics presenter in a way that they haven't had for at least a while (largely due to there now only being one 'senior' politics programme).
Other than really Jane Hill, I can't see any of the network presenters being particularly suited to the role. Clive would be able to keep the avuncular spirit of Dimbleby and Edwards, but Jane is the superior rolling news presenter and election nights are basically one long rolling news event. Of the News channel team, I do think Matthew Amroliwala would be quite a decent shout.
