RIP Michael Parkinson. The show was a staple of my Saturday nights as a teenager.

The best tribute to Parkinson is that all the memorable clips from his show are about his guests, not him.

Parkinson always said out of everything he's ever done and the guests he had on his chat show, "I'll probably be remembered for that bloody bird", referring to the time in 1976 where somebody invited Rod Hull and Emu on:

But of course he was one of the initial batch of five presenters on TV-am, outlasting three of the group by some margin (David Frost of course hung on until the end).

Has anyone done the calculations to see if him taking out a SunLife Over 50s Plan was a wise finance decision in the end?

All the data is there, his age when he did the adverts, his age when he died, the monthly instalments he was paying. Factor in the free Parker Pen etc.

It could make an interesting 12 part podcast.

Ironically to younger viewers Parkinson was more famous for being the face of Sun Life, rather than his chat show.

BBC One has changed its schedules and will be showing ‘Parkinson at 50’ at 9pm tonight.

What an amazing career. As a teenage pres geek I was in awe of his mammoth presenting stint on the 2000 Today Millenium coverage
