Survivor seems to be the type of show that viewers didn't want and it's not something you can dip in and out of easily whereas you can with Gladiators, but the latter has to match up to the original otherwise it will be seen as a flop. Survivor doesn't have that problem even if it is a reboot because the majority of people don't remember the ITV run. Though it is questionable if they want to watch an ultra physical gameshow when so many have failed in recent years but maybe part of the reason is because they've been compared so much to Gladiators?
The point about timeslot is a good one, but sadly, too many shows are on far too late for what they are, e.g. Pointless and Chase celebs. I suppose it's because they are the best of what's available. Then there's also a lack of suitable comedy and drama pre-watershed which forces teatime at best shows into that primetime gap.
