In the early days CNN carried live overnight programming including on its sister channels like Headline News. But that indeed was cutback and then stopped. Periodically over the years they had CNNi simulacasts but those were sporadic. In later years indeed the reason that all the channels give for the replay of the primetime is because the West Coast didnt have a chance to view those programmes because of the 4 hour time difference. The channels realised that appointment viewing in primetime was typically the highest viewership across the day.

Is there still a 'tape delay' for the West Coast?

They don't have a tape delay, they just reair shows later to line up with the West Coast Primetime. East Coast/West Coast feeds are the same

Next week's CNNI/Max schedule has Erica Hill filling in for Amara Walker in the 8am hour.

On Monday, it looks like CNN International/Max will have their own coverage of the first day of Trump's hush money trial rather than simulcasting domestic directly. Schedules show that from 2pm-8pm, (Amanpour still listed in it's usual slot) Erica Hill will present coverage from outside the Manhattan courthouse with Jim Sciutto handling coverage from 8pm-10pm.

Jessica Dean only seemed to be on the air for an hour tonight, she was on air from 4pm-5pm and now Alex Marquardt has taken over as of 5pm ET for Breaking News in the Middle East.

They really are trying to squeeze the screen with nine cameras shots in one screen aren't they? Doesn't help that Alex is presenting from the broom cupboard.

Wonder if Maher, Columbia disaster documentary repeat and Forensic Files will get scrapped this time due to breaking news... Nothing on the schedules yet.

That's weird, why they used cupboard for Jessica Dean in the first place? Usually they exploit Studio D for weekend late stints in DC.

On a separate note, something must have been off this morning with Studio H. CNN TMW came from two separate flash sets, with meterorologist coming from the third one, and even First of All seemed to come from a broom cupboard, probably for the first time in its history. By midday, however, studio was back on air, with Omar Jimenez substituting Fredricka Whitfield there.

I wouldn't be surprsied if they drop some of the programming, (I hope they do) this event is going to last a few hours and through the night.

There was a nice lighter moment at the end of Omar's hour with Elisa Raffa giving a quick check of the weather. They mentioned how they interned at CNN together with photo evidence at the big red CNN sign 10 years ago!

Looks like he started out in the broom cupboard but has now moved to Studio D.
