The Zucker era (pre-Trump presidency/early campaign) is the same era which would do this exact sort of things... in a bid to chase ratings.
It's well documented what went on during Zucker's tenure.
My pushback here is thatCNN would be running Town Halls whether #45 was running or not, the very fact he's agreed to do one with a moderator who once berated him with questions he found inappropriate is rather telling.
