CNN have struck gold with Phil Mattingly who is covering for Kaitlin Collins on CNN This Morning. He's a total natural as an anchor, super intelligent and is very pleasing on the eye. He and Poppy Harlow have superb chemistry, it's been a great watch all week.

Was just thinking the same thing. Every time he fills in to anchor any show, he is fantastic.

They will need another Chief White House Correspondent if they get Mattingly to mornings but he's excellent in either role regardless.

It's incredible how quickly CNN This Morning seems to be dismantling. It only feels like it launched a short while ago with plenty of promise and the likes of Don Lemon goes a ruins it with objective comments and off air antics with his co-hosts. I think they would have been fine with just keeping Poppy and Kaitlin but clearly the success for Kaitlin in the 9pm slot with her ratings and the performance is just something that they cannot overlook. I think the Trump Town Hall is going to be a major test for her tonight but I think she will hopefully handle it well.

Not a CNN era I personally was familiar with but seems incredible today to have only dipped in for 15 minutes of it at the top of the hour. 10 years later, the most recent iteration of CNN Today was regularly completely dropped in favour of US simulcasts.

CNN really screwed up with the Trump Town Hall last night. It was a very uncomfortable watch, so cringeworthy in fact that I had to switch it off.

The reviews are scathing right across the board with many pundits calling for Licht to resign over such an ill fated decision. A few pages back I'd said this could be Kaitlin Collin's defining moment.. well it was, but all for the wrong reasons. Car crash television hits the mark.

I slept through it thankfully but I watched Sky News’s report on it this morning and their tone was quite critical of the host saying Trump went unchallenged for most of the show.
