Back in the day on local tv in the US when the local station would join network programming if they were covering local breaking news or something.... They would show a full screen station ident and you would hear a recorded voiceover say something to the effect of : " We now join (network/regularly scheduled) programming already in the progress". And then it would crash into whatever was airing. I think that would be a better solution, then just an unannounced crash. That just weird. They could do this. Full screen BBC News Ident animation. Recorded voice-over that says something like: "This has been BBC News domestic coverage. We now join live BBC News world wide already in progress" or something to that effect. Then the crash wont feel so alien.
