I was also a big fan of the original New Day flat look.
This screenshot must be from after Zucker took over but before the switch to the current look. Replacing the flipper with the scrolling ticker is one of the first things he did.
And it was more than just a cosmetic change. He put in place an entire team to do it (at domestic only).
Ticker process at CNNI has always been different (as are many things). I think CNNI held on to a flipper for quite a few years later before finally switching to a scrolling ticker during the pandemic.
(for domestic only.... CNNI has to handle their own.... just like many other things).
Edited to add: this was also the first graphics look after the change to full HD… I believe this launched January 2011.
The look before that was designed with the 4:3 aspect ratio in mind.
Of course, it took longer for CNNI to go 16:9.
