Hmmm this article suggests CNN went from 6,000 Atlanta employees when Zucker started to mere "hundreds" now. That's just pure speculation. I don't think it's been anywhere near as drastic as that.
But still, this move feels like the final nail in the coffin of Atlanta being the "world headquarters." Will Techwood get that designation? Seems unlikely. But CNN Center had remained CNN HQ, at least technically.
Zucker slashing Atlanta... makes sense to me. To think about it, remember there used to be a robust HLN staff, when Zucker Started HLN was still doing live programming until 9pm ET... though some shows weren't out of Atlanta they still had stuff in Atlanta, and some weekend hours before they decided to start wrapping up at 12 ET. CNN I used to have more including weekend programming etc.... Moving Newsroom programming to NYC, probably did mean they cut back on studio staff from Atlanta, even if they still did control and producing from there, you don't need the other parts of production. Also the last been of "In Session" on Tru TV was produced by HLN was slashed in 2013. (The first Zucker year) Last year's layoffs weren't pretty either, including the cleansing of the rest of HLN. Some jobs were probably given to DC and NYC spaces, London for International. Some jobs were probably just not replaced anywhere. Accounting for the AT&T purchase, they were slashing left and right so CNN probably was part of that. It also fits the general slashing of news employees across the board at many networks and groups and hedge fund owned newspapers.
