All good mate. Always like to think we keep it laid back on the CNN thread, unlike the deep pedantry that occupies, erm, other threads. Whatever went wrong, I doubt they'll want to make any big fixes so close to Thanksgiving. Could mean CNN Center stays online for a few more days.

Speaking of musical chairs, Fredricka Whitfield covered for News Central for Sara Sidner last Monday and Tuesday. Always a pleasure seeing Fred on weekdays in New York.

Well, it's nice to have CNN Center on, for a little bit longer. Or at least long enough for me to do my screencap tribute to CNNI studio (Studio 4???) I've been working on last few days.

So I will go through the history of this studio, that I'm familiar with, by posting my screencaps from over the years, so we can see how it changed, transitioned and what sort of set ups they used.

I'll start with the late 90s look that lasted until 2002, I think. I'm not sure how this studio looked before this version. Of course, I don't have any caps of mine, so I had to use some bad quality You Tube videos.

It was a very 90s newsroom look, with wooden desk and a lot of brown everywhere. The main shot had a nice blue, more modern looking backdrop though.

After that, sometime in either late 2002 or early 2003, we got my favorite incarnation of this studio. That huge desk (both long and tall), refreshed newsroom with big projection screens on top. You knew this was CNN Center when you tuned in! They used the left side of the desk for solo World News editions and the middle for double headed Your World Today.

It all got a bit too dark in its last few months in 2006, with the newsroom  behind a bit deserted because they set up the temporary set in the middle of it, that was to be used during the construction of the new set.

Still hard to believe something that looked so spacious and grand would soon become so small, local news like, forever.....

This is a good collection. And it sad to see. Plus in my opinion, newsrooms sets are always the best for a news channels. This collection also highlights the powerhouse anchor/presenter team that CNN had. Its hard to believe all those people are gone. The trust and credibility that CNN had. All gone under the watch of Zucker and Co. What a mess.

There's some pretty good video on YouTube of CNNI debuting their dedicated newsroom space from 1994. It basically looked the same as it did in the late 90s, only more white and less wood tones.

First newscast:

Steve Stahl also has some tapes of the construction and outfitting of the space. Very long but interesting to scrub through. Looks like it was a very exciting time to work in international television and at CNN:

Thanks for those, Charles. It looked better with the white elements than wooden ones they got later.

Rosemary seems to be in Techwood today.

I'll continue with the studio 4 history tribute later in the day.

I liked how  HeadLineNews also used CNN center in the past. Especially the newsroom set, but the 1999 and 2001 sets were nice usage too.  The latter giving me MSNBC in Secaucus, New Jersey vibes.  You can kind of say that HLN moving away from a newsroom set was a sign of their focus drifting away in the first place. Though Studio 7 was nice

I miss that HLN studio (studio 3, I believe). CNN This Morning Weekend and Fred’s Newsroom hours use it currently. But who knows for how much longer.

Will Domestic follow CNNI with a makeshift setup at Techwood???

Unclear when the new main, big studio will be ready.

More BTS from Techwood:

Do we know if Techwood is getting two studios or just one? The space Rosemary in looks like it could fit a small set.
