12 years is a remarkably long run for a CNN Breakfast show. Early Start with Ashleigh Banfield and Zoraida Sambolin launched on Jan 2, 2012, airing from 5-7am. The show got off to a rocky start, with the "Wake Em Up" segment attracting much criticism, particularly from Jon Stewart. The graphics were originally a powder blue, before adopting the current yellow/orange/blue during the summer of 2012. This might be the longest run of any graphics package on CNN.
John Berman would replace Ashleigh in July of 2012. 2013 saw Early Start lose an hour when New Day launched in June. 2014 saw Christine Romans replace Zoraida in January and Early Start expand into the 4am hour to cover a missing plane in July. Dave Briggs replaced John in February of 2017 before being replaced by Laura Jarrett in January of 2020.
Early Start would take a two month hiatus during the pandemic before returning as a one hour show. Laura left in July of 2022 and Christine left a year later. Kasie's stint is the shortest anyone has been at the helm of the show.
