I do wonder if rather than giving every show a Christmas special every year and having the same shows on Christmas Day most years whether actually limiting more shows to every couple of years which although perhaps means they offer a bit less would actually feel like they're offering a bit more rather than the same, old, same old, every year - and for those that do air annually don't always have them on Christmas Day.
Doctor Who on Christmas Day feels more of an event, and more worthy of the slot, because it's not been on the main day for a few years and isn't just airing by default. It feels like it's earned the slot.
Do feel like Christmas Day would be instantly better by not including Mrs Brown's Boys. That's such a baffling deal. But just switching shows around a bit could make the big day feel really fresh - having Doctor Who, Death in Paradise, Not Going Out and Ghosts would be a very solid Christmas Day line up.
