2024 Local Elections
#1

Figured it would be best to open a separate thread for the local elections that will be taking place on 2 May

Overnight coverage from the BBC will start at 23:40 on the night, no confirmation on who is hosting yet.

"Coverage and analysis of the local, mayoral and police and crime commissioner elections taking place in England and Wales on 2 May 2024."

With these elections, a lot of the results won't be coming in overnight. Some, but not all, councils will be counting overnight and there's the Blackpool by-election too, but a lot will be happening during the day on Friday and some, including the London results, won't be until Saturday.

Surly the London mayor will be counted over night?

London Mayor and Assembly votes aren't being counted until the Saturday.

As noted in another thread, London, Birmingham and Manchester Mayoral debates are on the respective local BBC One on the 25th at 8pm, opting out from a repeat of Dragon's Den.

It's an interesting editorial decision to put Manchester's debate out in primetime, but Liverpool's out after the Ten O'Clock news - I guess it is a problem of having one region that is so large

Yorkshire, North West and North East have opt outs tonight from 22:40 with timeshifting following.
East Midlands, Yorkshire and North East have opt outs next Wednesday at 22:40 replacing Dragon's Den
London, West Midlands and North West have opt outs next Thursday at 20:00 with timeshifting following.

As mentioned above, the North West has mayoral elections for Liverpool and Greater Manchester.
The second one in the North East is for the Tees Valley mayoral election.
Yorkshire region should have three really, as there are mayoral elections in South, West and North Yorkshire, but there are only two scheduled as far as I can tell.

By rights Yorkshire should also take the East Midlands debate as Chesterfield is part of their patch

Yorkshire had one last week for the new North Yorkshire mayor

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Manchester debate has the better production as well as the better slot.

Tonight’s Liverpool debate is a basic looking affair coming from the old Open Space at Radio Merseyside (once used as a temporary set by NWT in the lead up to the 2007 rebrand)

Infact, it’s very much like ‘Radio Merseyside on telly’ - it’s being chaired by their long-standing political correspondent, Claire Hamilton (the debate also went out on RM at midday)

A Mayor for the North East ended rather abruptly on NE&C. As Richard Moss was saying that the TV version of the debate was coming to an end, it cut to some credits that were halfway through, before an "A Mayor for West Yorkshire" endtitle appeared. It seems that NE&C just suddenly cut to the Yorkshire feed, and it wasn't in HD to that effect, through idents and into Eddie the Eagle.

Just checked iPlayer, and the same thing happened in the North West region, which was showing the Liverpool debate.
