Spotlight’s set is lovely, and arguably more visually pleasing than the new style, but I don’t see how it’s more versatile than a set that can change the appearance of every wall at the touch of a button.

I think visually pleasing is the right word for Plymouth's set, it's not like the variations on the 2008 style that have gone more recently which were showing their ages and it's still relatively new (then again Birmingham and Nottingham's sets were about 5/6 years old when they went).
I take it NWT aren't moving studios when their new set is constructed as otherwise they'd not bother with the temporary set and just use the existing one until the new one was struck. It's going to be quite a short tower (possibly shorter than Tunbridge Wells?)

They have so many different presentation areas. The desk, the sofa, and the screens surrounding it (for standing pres).
They often overlay AR graphics and fake catwalk-esque screens over the sofa area for some features.

The presentation from the new sets is nowhere near as varied as a typical edition of Spotlight. It'll be quite the downgrade for them.

But would they need to overlay dodgy AR graphics if they had screens that could just display those graphics with the presenter standing there.
Remember they aren't getting the Ross solution any time soon, so the Viz centric stuff can still happen in the new space, it's just the places where they stand will be limited. Southampton shows what can be done with these new sets, and arguably a better job than the example you've given there.

It’s great that Spotlight are so creative and use their space well, but the whole point of introducing a standardised set is that graphics and presentation styles can be standardised too. Up to now there’s presumably been a lot of duplication of resources. ITV have (still, I believe) a centralised team doing most of the creative work, helped by regions all having more or less the same kit. The BBC aren’t spending all this money standardising things for the sake of it.

It’s the same with the new sets and the screens, do they all need to be on for a locked off camera shot.
At least over on ITV they generally only light the portion of the set actually in use

It’s not lit at all for Breakfast bulletins, they come from the cupboard. That second video was from the 1.30pm bulletin.
