If ratings are higher on itv1, this may factor into whether the show moves there in the future.

That's a good point - the same bloke can't be sitting in the production suite 24 hours a day for 6 weeks ready to speak to the housemates without delay.
Unless he goes home at night and whoever's left fills the void and they dub his oral tones over the random crew member's voice before the highlights show each night?

There was a lot of talk about Big Brother being "the OG social experiment" but, unless I missed it, no explanation of what the show actually is beyond that now rather vague tagline or how it works. Which seems an odd oversight considering they're trying to introduce this to a new generation.
I'm fine with the show not being to my taste anymore but I just can't see what an 16yr old would have got out of last nights launch. To itv2's younger audience It must have looked like just another reality show, one with no clear usp. It had a bit of a "how do you do fellow kids?" vibe to it.

There's no chance Big Brother will move to ITV1, it's too much of a commitment in terms of weeks.

Suspect it’ll go up in consolidation, unlike the BBC News at Ten.

The ratings are about right for what is the hyped return of a culturally significant (let's put it that way), old show.

And like Big Brother BBC News at Ten arguably no longer has a live 24/7 accompanying channel.

For ITV1 that feels rather low, though I could be wrong with my assumption. It'll be interesting to see how many additional people were watching via ITVX, which I don't think is mentioned in this article. Presumably ITV are hoping that most of those 2.5M viewers will continue watching when it's only on ITV2 (and ITVX).
That rating isn’t low any more
It’s now pretty normal for stuff on the main two channels to rate, in overnight terms, lower than 2m
It won the slot and beat the big Sunday night drama on BBC One for example

Says a lot about audience fragmentation if 2.5M wins the slot, even if it was on ITV1.
Back in the day it would have been a total disaster. But today its a case of it gets what it gets... providing it rates at all (IIRC that cut off is something like 100k viewers, otherwise below that its effectively non-rating) then I suppose the broadcaster is relatively happy.

It's about demographic as well, apparently hitting 49% share of 18-34 year olds last night. BB has always been good at hitting that younger demo.
Let's see where it settles when it goes ITV2 only.
