Apologies for the brief outages recently. We are aware of an issue and it is being investigated. x

As opposed to the old globe humanity abandoned to move to this one Big Grin

The Six ended with an election music montage of memorable political moments since the 2019 election, but interestingly Reeta then re-appeared on the NC to introduce the weather and then we went straight to a live forecast with Louise Lear from Studio B.

Proper hand-overs on the NC like old times!

Louise quickly finished and we then went straight into a TOTH from Downing Street with Geeta back again.

Presumably this is still going out on the global feed which illustrates the pressing need for more proper UK opts, especially in daytime for campaign coverage, etc.

Sorry for the quick succession of posts, but this was probably worth a video: up.metropol247.co.uk

Given today's GE announcement and the date of it I'm guessing we may see a bit more of studio C and/or the balcony for UK opt outs on the News Channel for the next couple months.

Now that the snap UK GE has been called by Rishi Sunak at Downing St; it would be a great modicum of sense for the NC to use Studio C as the main UK opt-opt studio of the GE campaign for the next six weeks as opposed to the relatively new Studio A that is located on the balcony. I suspect the amount of time devoted for the NC going into full election mode will be quite significant for that length of time. I would assume that lot of the output from the correspondents located around the UK would have to do lots of interviews with MPs and local people who are living around the various constituencies on who they vote for in the election.

How big is that commitment is going to be for the BBC NC over the next six weeks?

They will probably have to do a lot of back and forth analysis between the Newsroom and Studio C over the course of the campaign.
The screens over in the newsroom would have to be used full time for the UK Election Opt-out coverage on the UK feed of the NC.

They probably would not be able to use them for the World feed of the NC at all.

Would the UK feed of the NC be able to use the BBC Verify team for some of the UK election opt-out coverage or would that not be necessary?

Would Martine Croxall be back on screen during these Opt-Outs for the GE because it would be great to see her come back on the NC again in the next while?

I’m guessing “planned” opts, for coverage of campaign events and other things of that nature, will now default to using Studio C.

We’ll probably (hopefully) see less of the balcony.

It turns out that Studio E’s mini-refurb was completed just in time!

No, not some terrible new BBC News title sequence...

Just a slight cock-up at the 1900 TOTH -- what was presumably supposed to be a fade to a sweeping view across the London skyline didn't go quite as planned, so we got some lovely colour bars instead before Geeta appeared.

That can't be intentional, I wonder if they were intended for Pointless but somehow got copied over to the live news

Why is this now still on the global feed we are getting Sunaks rallying cry.

Probably because after 7pm UK time they no longer have the capability to provide a split UK/World service, which in fairness was a bit struggle even pre-merger.
