The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

Currently watching Court Simone Matthieu without commentary on Discovery+, when I think there would be commentary in previous years. Don't think there's a Discovery+ multicourt stream with commentary either, unlike we have had at recent Slams.

Not sure if there is world feed commentary of this court, but I think the French Open has the smallest world feed provision of the four grand slams (Wimbledon has six courts with commentary, and the other Anglophone Slams have a similar provision).

Is there any UHD coverage provided by Eurosport?

A new feature this year is the umpires on Court Philippe Chatrier wearing a camera by their ear. It looks similar to what was see on the Crystal Palace v. Manchester United game a few weeks back.

There has been no world feed commentary used by Eurosport/Discovery so far... they also appear to have ditched the "Extra" stream which really was just a simulcast of Eurosport 2 at the Australian Open anyway. The only English commentaries away from Chatrier and Lenglen have been on matches involving British players.

Eurosport UHD is available on Virgin Media in the UK, and presumably on some platforms elsewhere.

On Sky Stream (and presumably Glass), Eurosport have used some of the Ultra HD streams that are usually reserved for Sky Sports (excluding Main Event and F1). I want to say it was last used during the Australian Open.

S4C will show live coverage of Wales' men's rugby international v. South Africa at Twickenham and highlights of the tour in Australia. The women's match v. Spain will also be shown live.

So, that clears up who is showing South Africa v. Wales, but still unknown who is showing Barbarians v Fiji (a double header at Twickenham with Wales) and Japan v. England on the same day.

And indeed, Eurosport 4K as it’s displayed on the DOG is on channel 906, which is labelled as Ultra HD. You can access it via Eurosport 1 and selecting to watch in UHD.

Is it a simulcast of Eurosport 1?

I didn’t check, it seemed to be, however there were no adverts for the half an hour or so I watched of the Djokovic match earlier on.

Sounds like its the ad-free production that goes out on Discovery+ match feeds.

Meanwhile it's five days from the grass court season starting in Surbiton, and there's no domestic broadcast info announced so far...

I've just heard from Dave McIntyre on VM2 this evening that the Irish broadcasts of the England Friendlies on VMTV will be on VM Three next week.

I got more info about Irish broadcasts of the other International Friendlies on VMTV.

France v Luxembourg and Netherlands v Canada will both be shown on VM More in The Republic of Ireland from next week.

The England friendlies will be on VM3 as Love Island will be on VM2 from next week.
