Salford is the only region that regularly does a live regional Sunday politics programme and is indeed because there is a crew already in.
All the other regions would have to bring staff in especially and thats actually not as cost effective as pre-recording on a Friday when the regional 6.30 crew are in.

Couldn't use NWT studio as politics northwest would be in, and also uses the same gallery as the breakfast studio so the rehearsal issue remains
Can't use morning live studio as its not a BBC news facility and therefor would cost (a lot)
Not suggesting what was done was brilliant, just explaining why the alternatives suggested wouldn't work
Surely the Breakfast/Sport studio and the NWT studio have separate galleries otherwise NWT might as well move into that studio if they can't both be on air at the same time?

Breakfast and NWT share the same gallery even with the new studio arrangement. Sport have their own.

So one studio can be operated by two galleries. Any idea why they went for this arrangement? Presumably this also means NWT can't use the main NWT studio then for their Breakfast updates as a result.

I don't know the size of the gallery required for sport, I would assume its fairly small which possibly only has one one or two people. Breakfast would require to have a far larger gallery as would North West Tonight. Plus sport and news use different software so I would imagine that would have something to do with it. I remember when the new studio launched one of the main challenges was the attempt to integrate the technology.

Laura’s dad sadly died recently which is most likely why she is absent.

As expected, Victoria Derbyshire has absolutely gone in on Keir Starmer this morning, and she's done her prep, which Starmer seems to be struggling to keep up with

I'm watching now on iPlayer as you said she was presenting. Much better lighting and set furniture than last week. They still need some programme branding in the set.

At least Starmer reacted better to Victoria showing him the wordcloud just then than Sunak did last week
