The satellite signal loss in West Germany v Uruguay, as handled by TVB Pearl in Hong Kong, World Cup 1986:
fb.watch

Citing from this site:

Quote:There was a complete loss of feed from 70-73 minutes and then a loss of pictures three minutes later with [Barry] Davies doing a radio style commentary. Two more black outs occurred before the last 30 seconds was lost altogether.
Here we see a colourful breakdown slide from Pearl, accompanied by actual music, before cutting to Barry Davies explaining the technical feat in transmitting sound in this World Cup.

Dr. Mabuse by Propaganda, for anyone interested. Only the second time I think I've seen commercial music used in such context, other than one RTE breakdown that featured an inexplicable use of Gangsta's Paradise.

There was a black screen aswell before the ident. And the ident was played out in full ( 40 secs)

Back in analogue days, on bbc1, when children in need was doing the regional opt outs, I presume if a regional couldn't opt out, due to a fault, then viewers in that region saw bbc south east?

In the absence of some other arrangement being made, yes.

(eg if your OB's gone down but everything is OK at the studio end it might be preferable to take a neighbouring region instead of the network feed)

Very much in the style of the Breaking News error they had on BBC News a couple of years ago. A classic of the genre!

Unless you're on Instagram, you might not be able to see this. But, as the description says, a bit of a messy start to the 3.30pm TVS news bulletin at Maidstone. Love the noise of the tape being paused!
