The 6.30pm news always rated poorly so merging it with the earlier 5pm bulletin made a lot of sense.

I think having the morning slot being extended is less to do with PSB but more that Vine rates a lot better than the repeats they used to air before H&A and probably it only costs them a bit more to extend it.

I don’t think all this phone-in cheapo TV is an attempt to cut-back on news. C5 seems to struggle to fill some of its early evening schedule  if anything. Finding something for 1730-1800 would just create another headache, plus the 5pm does OK for them and has been grown its share marginally according to Dan Walker’s recent tweets.
They don't seem to be finding breakout hits at 4pm or 6pm.    Practically not slots they could put a Vine style show in from the same studio as the news though.

This sort of thing though is where presentation is absolutely key though to differentiate them.

I am watching the new Storm Huntley show, they are using a much smaller desk, the first topic is "Is it racist to oppose migration?"

I had a feeling Storm would use the area of the Vine set used for her health segments on Jeremy Vine Extra, but they should have kept the old high table as the guests looked squashed together with the new desk.

To their credit, both the Storm Huntley and Alexis Conran shows have their own area and desks within the Vine set. There was also a slick handover between the two shows.

Compared to what Talk TV and GB News pump out in daytime, this was a much more professional set-up.

It feels like it needs an umbrella brand rather than just three identical shows with different names. I noticed on Channel 5's Twitter they're using a '5 Mornings' logo.

Only thing is.. Alexis' show only starts at 12:15pm. Seems like a good chance to shoehorn in a concept I shared at the blue place when Jeremy took over from Matthew Wright: www.tvforum.co.uk

Joking aside, I do feel like something akin to this would be the best path for what is now a whole programming block to take. Maybe they're seeing how Storm and Alexis' shows fare before making any changes to the overall brand?

They should just call it 5Daytime. ITV uses ITV Daytime when referring to Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women collectively.

Yes, although ITV has four unique programmes, and ITV Daytime isn't really an outward-facing brand (only really referenced to in competitions).
Channel 5 finds itself currently with three separate programmes, almost identical to one another in format and brand.

Maybe if the three shows work long-term, they could look over to the States and NBC's Today. Essentially three separate shows within a show, with a strong master brand.
