The new BBC Ident into taped programming is quite bland, compared to what we had before.

WHAT THE HELL? For some reason, Red Bee decided to slap this DISGUSTING strap on the South Asia feed whenever there's ANY slightest bit of new branding elements - from the new chameleon promos to tickers to lower thirds during bulletins and pre-records. The ident announcer voice is also cut from the South Asia feed to avoid references to the new "BBC News" name.

WHICH GENIUS FROM RED BEE thought this was a good idea? OH MY GOD I feel like my feed got censored by CCP in bruteforce because they're some "sensitive" wordings in the lower-thirds... This is just SUPER BRUTAL to watch!

The ONLY reason I think they're doing this is because haven't rebranded yet in the South Asia area. They're still airing promos with the old logo.

Apologies for my overreaction but I've never seen something so hideous executed by the BBC before...
That is very strange indeed. Would love to know the rationale (if any!) behind this. Very obtrusive.

Anyone noticed if any interviews have used the on set screens yet, or have they gone just for boxes now?

First impressions, probably already said.

-I don't like the countdown, it feels like it is too bare.

-Stuffing in videos about presenters between reports doesn't work. (I assume this may just be a first day thing)

-The large BBC logo to the right of studio E in the background of the newsroom looks a bit silly and out of place. The logo should be real and more prominent.

-Having presenters in front of a large screen with webpages "joining us from the newsroom", I don't get what this adds. It wastes the newsroom, you have a great background anyway, why not use it? It is also out of joint, the two presenters are very close to each other, why not have a camera going across between the studio and the newsroom position? One assumes this is a short term thing before studio E is redone?

-Having the presenter say "live from London" seems to miss the beat, it should be a proper voice over.

Agreed - this is very strange. What a obstruction that is! There's no way why that something like that should be allowed to be on air at all

It's also a pretty much all UK-news half-hour, which obviously makes sense and they seem to be better using the separated periods than they were in the interim period.

So far, it's been about one-third UK news to two-thirds World news during shared programming, which is what I did say would be the reasonable balance position. Though, I do remain aware that it is a slow news day here in the UK and the first morning of the interim period was not unreasonably balanced, before veering off to News channel proportions from then on.

I’m a bit concerned about posting my views in this thread as my response to the changes isn’t nearly as hysterical as the response has been from other members… ‘Embarrassing’ and ‘amateur’ may be views of some in this thread, but having flicked through the first hour of the combined channel, it’s simply not the case.

On the whole, what I’ve seen so far has been broadly fine - it’s not been amazing or revolutionary but it does the job. In terms of the running order, they seem to have increased the number of stories they cover in an hour, which is to be welcomed. There also appeared to be more live interviews than you would normally expect, including a few that were (a bit too obviously) shot on phones; this is another positive, even if some of the interviews have dragged on for a little too long.

There is definitely still a test to come in terms of a day where the UK/World running orders don’t sync up so well, but breaking news of relevance only to viewers in the UK was swiftly covered in the 9am hour and followed up with a live interview not long after. Whilst that may not be great news for a World audience, I think it will suit viewers in the UK quite well.

Of course, it hasn’t been perfect. I’m not a fan of the single-level story straps - just leaving the same headline on-screen throughout an interview or VT doesn’t tell you much and also looks a bit weird visually. Whilst the opt to/from the :15/:45 fillers is a bit smoother than it was before, the little presenter interviews do seem a bit random and it’s strange that they don’t have a proper ending, with the interviewed presenter just nodding/grimacing like the capture above until they cut away from the filler, rather than an end cap neatly rounding it off. The interview that was done in the newsroom in front of one of the new screens also added nothing and would have looked much better done from Studio E.

As for the mishmash of old titles and updated graphics in the studio, whilst I’m not expecting any big changes, hopefully there is an update to come later today as suggested earlier in the thread, as retaining the box logo in the titles when it’s been removed from everywhere else is silly and inconsistent. I do get the argument that it’s hard to rebrand all of the BBC with the chameleon look in an instant, but the roll-out has been incredibly protracted and it does look sloppy only some elements use the chameleon style.
