BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

Couples of notes:

1. WBR has been extended for 3 minutes, they ended at almost 11:43 (instead of previous almost :40)

2. Well, schedules turned out to be right, and insider info about "only Lucy getting her branded show at the start", well, wrong - Lucy did not got her branded show from the start, it is generic BBC News branding, although tweaked.

So presenters are now operating the autocue? Is this a cost-cutting measure?

More widely though will anyone care- the ratings for these channels were already minimal.
I'm hopeful that these are just teething problems and it will be the sort of thing that is fixed over time. However I do question the fudge we've got. If the two news channels had to merge then I'd have preferred it if we just had full-on World News (maybe with UK news during the breaks). Forget the Breakfast/1/6/10 simulcasts - unless the BBC can be prepared to show them all with sign language - and let's have an alternative, one that is globally focussed.

I believe that was reportedly part of the audition process to those who want to be the main presenter of the new BBC News channel?

It’s based what’s already used by BBC1 bulletins.

If so, why could they not have got them using foot pedal ones? Viewer distraction if anyone pays too much attention.

From a branding perspective everything is a right mess. It's basically back to how BBC News presented itself prior to 1999 and also 2008. Although having said that, even then the branding for different audiences was broadly aligned. Whether you're doing a soft launch or not, at least get the visual elements right... it's television after all.

We've now got 15+ year old butchered titles (and they are, the frame jump to allow the Chameleon BBC NEWS to appear being the main issue). It just sums everything up for me that's wrong with in-house branding roll out at BBC News. Although its not new, as they previously butchered the titles in 2013.

Meanwhile on World and now the News channel, you have new breakfillers with animations which don't match the core 'brand' in how its presented.

You can forgive the studio not being refitted or refreshed. Although to me - the backdrop looks really washed out! But either relaunch the channel and everything that surrounds it at the same time or don't. Limping along with half-baked revamps like this is visually damaging the core brand. Unless of course they're gong to stick with the LN titles for another 10 years?

What is this, GB News?  Big Grin Can we at least please have Simon McCoy back, in that case?

I absolutely hate their new splitscreen format, especially those that overlap one video over another.

The countdown is extremely TV Forum mock. I don't mind it but it really does feel like something you'd get in The Gallery.
