Quote:If the UK stream is going to break away from the international channel for lengthy periods, perhaps have an option to continue watching the international version of the channel? Red button/IPTV options?
Would this be technically feasible?

As someone I work with once told me, anything is technically possible but the problem is the effort required to achieve it. However I don't think it's something the BBC want to do.

What they should be doing, however, is sticking with the global channel when there is breaking news of an international nature instead of BBC1/2 simulcasts.

If the roll out is anything like its been managed already, I wonder if we'll end up with new titles but the old music, only for new music to appear 2 months later?

I know the BBC is a huge organisation but I honestly don't understand how ill co-ordinated this roll-out has been over the last 6 days. It's akin to those in charge being asleep at the wheel. At times, you wonder if they actually remember they're producing news for a visual medium here.
But it's not like they're having to produce 50 different sets of titles. Its only a handful...

- News channel (main titles, close) x2
- 1, 6, 10 (main titles) x3
- Nationals numberless (main titles) x1

I make that a grand total of... 6! (You could actually say 5 if the national numberless just used the channel titles). Even then its just adding the number to the template on 3 of them!

There's also a few other language service channels, like Arabic STILL using the old Gill Sans BBC NEWS logo and titles so they've gone through 2 revamps with no changes made!

It's so, so disjointed with various outlets updated, some not, some bodged. I understand BBC News is a big department but surely coordinating the basic news channel and domestic bulletins to look professional and the same isn't that difficult.

Just shows how good Lambie Nairn were at rolling everything out on the same day twice (in 1999 and 2008) which included the added complication of new nations and regions titles as well. They also coordinated new national and news channel sets to launch on the same days on both occasions.

I remember BBC News did do their own in house refresh in 2003, and I'm pretty sure that was a bit of a mess as well. Didn't the likes of Reporting Scotland not get new titles and ended up using their 1999 LN ones right up to 2008? So the BBC have a bit of history in that department.

The countdown to the TOTH on the UK feed reversed to the new Chameleon one before midnight.

At am we were back to the Chameleon countdown which is partly invisible white on white as has been mentioned. I happened to see the Chameleon countdown to An Là yesterday, worked perfectly. (BBC Alba news)

The text just needs to be less transparent and have a slight gradient or glow added, similar to the 2013 set...

A white glow around white text like that wouldn’t help. Plus, IMO, that looked naff.

A week in and I am surprised that other than the BBC News logo being removed from the Around the UK bumper nothing has been tidied up.

Are we expecting it to be cleaned up and look like a services worthy of carrying the BBC name or limp along ad-hock for the foreseeable future?

Limp along ad-hoc. I'd expect nothing more from the BBC.

It'll be a case of the flipper back in action for 2 minutes at 3:06pm followed by "bbc.co.uk/news" for the rest of the day. Then we'll have the old red logo patch countdown reinstated at midnight tonight followed by the return of the chameleon countdown at noon tomorrow. As for title sequences? Your guess is as good as mine what we'll get from hour to hour.

Asleep. At. The. Wheel. If you want a competent rolling news service where you can rest easy instead of fearing the next mistake coming up imminently, where there are no awkward presenter silences, no crashing in and out of opt-outs and it's a service produced by television professionals rather than amateurs, switch to Sky News - nowhere near the budget of BBC News but at least they take pride in their on air work.
