With the News at One coming from E again today there must be something significant going on in B.
I wonder what the back up situation would be on a Sunday morning should it fail before Kuenssberg goes on air?

Well this was predictable:
deadline.com
In summary the affected presenters all being women of a certain age being sat at home on full pay against their wishes whilst freelancers and reporters getting "acting up pay" fill slots on the news channel is not going down well with staff.

I still think B is a great studio, and looks fantastic on wide shots, at the big screens and the tower screen, but seeing the real newsroom view in E again brings it home how the fake background behind the desk in B isn’t great.
I also find it bizarre that they’ve invested huge amounts of money on the massively super-duper mega high definition screens and yet they've tried to make the background behind the guest position at the desk look like there are three cheapo LED tellies on the wall.

Studio C is in use for the news channel at this time, so that leaves only Studio D, which BBC London would also need to use if B was experiencing issues. Not sure if Studio D is large enough for both of the programmes to share.
I'm shocked to hear Studio E is being properly decommissioned. Is this new news?
As I recall, the Broadcasting House newsroom was specifically designed with its bespoke studio in mind. In fact, if I've not mistaken, the 2008-era TVC backdrops were intended to emulate Studio E's view of the newsroom as an interim stopgap before they moved to NBH.

Seems like a complete misfire to retire a stunning set that most news broadcasters would absolutely die to be able to have.

Isn't that a nod to the same position in C and E?

Does anyone know what if anything is happening with studio A?
With it being roughly the same size as C there's an argument for a new set being constructed in A for the news channel to utilise before E is redone. C could then exist for emergency use until E is in use, and can then be updated if necessary. That way there's a reasonable size studio available as backup in the event of technical problems putting a studio out of action. Whilst there's currently D it's smaller and may not be as easy for the likes of national & London news to share / quick change.

You hit the nail on the head. Whilst on a technology level it’s very impressive however the size of B and its layout’s make an it feel as if they’re in a warehouse. It also feels odd there is all these space but the main desk feels like it’s crammed int the corner with the cameras huddled around it.

One year old and a load of us are putting B out to pasture already. It's a studio that won't age well. We've not exactly seen how diverse it can be either. Since it went on air and having witnessed a 'dress rehearsal' with the local elections and Kuenssberg on Sunday, I'm bored of it already if I'm being honest. Kind of hope someone at the BBC realises what a fantastic space they have with E and get to work on a few enhancements.
