BBC News Pres: Apr 2023 - Present (News Channel/BBC One)

All this talk of having physical trees makes one thankful that we don't have to suffer those inserted into videowalls anymore. Such as those in the old N6 and TC7 that were clearly keyed in over the video newsroom.

P.S. Sorry for the double post as I cannot edit for some time. Hopefully it will be rectified in due course of course.

Just been digging around dumpster diving. Here are from the website This Is Five two examples from BBC North West Tonight circa 2012 for extreme Christmas Tree fakery.

Thankfully as I have said in the first post. Times have indeed changed.

Midlands Today only just got rid of this Christmas before last where they had a virtual tree for a number of years. Was quite refreshing to see a real Christmas Tree last Christmas, albeit in the temporary set.

Will be interesting to see where it will be placed in the new studios, given it will likely be in the way in most positions they could choose from.

BBC Breakfast did this for a segment last week (Wednesday I think), but as of yesterday, they now have a physical tree.

Id forgotten all about those ones inserted into the video wall. If I remember correctly, when Breakfast was still based in TVC, didn’t they have a real tree behind them in the lead up to Christmas before it was moved into the news channel studio for the final few days?

That tree in studio b just looks so out of place. You either need a larger tree (where space is going to become an issue) or a tree either end of the catwalk and then one which can be seen when at the desk as else it just looks lost.

I do hope the trees for the regions aren’t white! That doesn’t look great

There was at least one year during the era with the orangey brown sunrises backdrop in TVC when they simply added some white Wingdings snowflakes to the Barco screens. Even as someone who thinks all the Christmas stuff comes too much too early these days, I think that was a thoroughly miserable effort.

Was watching earlier and saw a lady I didn’t recognise. A new face to me - Kylie Pentelow. After a Google she’s former ITV and now she’s at the BBC. I thought BBC News was trying to reduce numbers not recruiting more? Does anyone know if she’s got a regular shift?

I remember Kylie from when she used to present BBC East Midlands Today from 2008 for a few years. Since then she’s moved around the regions a bit for BBC and ITV and presented on ITV including network weekend bulletins. She’s quite good.

I really don't see her replacing Yalda, it was a silly idea from the start. Confused
