The BBC Operates loads of BBC FAST channels in the US. Some for specific genres or specific programmes. Like there is a single channel that only shows Antiques Road shows or Classic Dr Who episodes.

But this is big that BBC News, like rival SkyNews has seemingly moved out of the paytv space into the FAST streaming world. The BBC News (channel) was alway only available in upper tier packages. YouTubeTv offers BBC News (channel) as part of 1 package service for $75. But the channel is not widely available in basic paytv packages. But it exists on certain systems again in the upper paid tier. But this is a massive move by the BBC to put the News channel into the FAST arena. Geez it took long enough.

Verified Live had problems with its opening automation at 15:00 today, and even apologised for in such terms. at 16:00 we were "Recorded" from for 3 minutes, and now looks like Matthew is in a different studio and from the sound possibly in a bit of the newsroom. Again, apologies given at 16:08.

I'm fairly certain he's presenting from the UK opt-out point on the balcony, which has the large screen behind him.

Back in C from 16:31 with Ben Thompson doing the business and now Matthew doing the main news.

And here’s how the 15:00 opening looked if anyone missed it:

They were previously decamping to Studio E in the event of issues with Studio C, of course, but now that Studio E is out of action mid-refurb it seems that the UK opt balcony area is the go-to backup area.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the opt studio has also been seen on the main feed recently as a place which Sally Bundock has recorded early morning interviews from. Presumably this is because Washington overnights still actually broadcast “through” Studio C’s gallery, as per Richard Murrell’s tweets, so they can’t use that to pre-record interviews and they also now can’t use E (which they did used to do).

Unfortunate they had to replay the previous hour’s headlines with all the faults. Matthew handling it all excellently as you would expect.

Just seen this thread on Reddit. Wasn’t there a similar one on the Blue Place at one point?

Could someone please explain what FAST channels are?

Free Ad Supported Television - linear online streams with programmes scheduled like TV but with programmatic adverts.

So you join the steam, not restart the show as that's VOD (either Subscription Video on Demand or Ad supported Video On Demand)
