Have to say I'm baffled by the idea that this is being "phased out". It's a simple and easy way to tell your viewers that you're watching a BBC funded programme when you're watching it somewhere other than the BBC, and another forward thinking move by Lambie-Nairn back in 97.
I thought that they might have placed the BBC logo at the top of the screen like on the trailers.

It seems to be more commonplace now to show the BBC blocks with the programme name rather than have it fade in and out during the titles. Would be interesting to know what guidance there is, if any, on this.
The BBC News app on Android for people living outside the UK went through another update in the Google Play Store today.
This update is for the preparation to eventually include the new BBC News app UI along with the Reith typeface.
It says this in the description box within The Google Play Store app.
"What's new
We aim to release regular improvements to the BBC News app. Recently we've been working on enhancing some fundamental elements of the app, which should help us to add some exciting features in the future."
I am assuming that this is text speak that the developers who work with BBC Studios Limited have been working on adding in the prep work to eventually launch the new app UI to Google Play Store and Amazon App store users in the near future.
I recently saw a slightly different closedown slide on BBC Three and Four, which had the blocks animated and slightly different text, and it can only be seen on Sky Stream/Glass. I got Stream. Then, I saw CBBC with the new branding on it’s closedown slide, and then, CBeebies with new branding on it’s closedown slide, even though the new look isn’t even out on the channel yet.
