Sky News

I do find the knee wall behind the anchor desk slightly too high. A bit too much blond wood. They are some define lighting issues. especially on the sides of the set and when they are using the stand up screen off to the right. You get some glare. And when the presenter is stood up presenting info from the screen. Its not that great. The set bring to mind the newsroom set NBC has it has a low ceiling and has the old Rockefeller windows in view and brick. But of course being NBC the lighting is literally flawless. They need to get them over to take a look at how to light the space. But overall its quite good and a refreshing change from the awful cube and it mental hospital corridor view.
Isn’t it only temporary pending the new permanent set?

No. They've clearly invested loads in a lighting grid etc to establish it as a permanent presentation area, in addition to whatever they're doing to refresh the studio set.

No it's a new permanent set, although once the main Westminster studio is refreshed it will be used differently.

Been watching Politics Hub and Yalda's World programme. Im comparing the presentation changes we are seeing on SkyNews with these new shows. Of course the graphics are far more colourful. Which is a good thing. And they still fit the framework of the SkyNews graphics. Also some of the new shows in the evening have coloured lights to make the cube look better. Thats a good thing. Also they are using more camera pans, especially in the new Westminster studio and for Yalda's show. Thats a good thing. The other shows with the locked down cameras, beige backgrounds, mental hospital corridor are horrible and boring presention

I think its a vast majority agree that either they need a new theme or they should have a library of several cuts for each "appointment" programme that fits with the overall theme. Personally, id perfer a completely new theme, something punch with a better signature. This is by far the worst. The previous ones were better, but again it should be use only for the rolling news broadcasts and not the appointment broadcasts. Presentation-wise its where things kinda fall apart.

Months ago, when SkyNews started using a DTL reguarly from the Newsroom, I suggested that they should "decorate" or make the newsroom a bit more camera ready. Maybe just add a SkyNews logo to the backwall...that comment got flamed. But as we can see, a presentation point in a newsroom typically gets made camera-ready. Just like we have seen with the new Westminster newsroom. As we can see its not an unusual or OTT suggestion or observation. Interesting.

What Im curious is to see that camera space being used by SkyNews at the Westminster studio. Are those cameras on tracks or something? How many are there? Etc.

I do not have issues with the theme and I say this as an auditive-oriented person, meaning for me the theme tune is even more important than the visuals. The problem is the theme gets boring as soon as it is played out without a ToTH, because then it is a different version a bit more plain with less timbals and drums. This is exactly the case for the new shows. Still I would judge it as better than the 2010 and 15 one , but of course far away from 2005-10, which is - and will ever be- the uncontested number ONE of all themes in news television history.

Sorry I dont look at every single post and my browser blocks Facebook and other social media posts. But thanks for that. Whats interesting, the pans and camera movements they have achieved with the traditional pedestal cameras look quite good. Darn good achievement Id say. So it makes you wonder why, especially those using public money, insist on using those problematic and far more expensive versions on rails. Just sayin'. These have to be far cheaper, a known system. Yeah they may not be able to perform all the acrobatics and such, but they get the job done and likely far cheaper and not prone to.....going off the rails.

Wilfred Frost is covering for Anna Jones, slight change in dynamic. But more broadly, I find the weekend breakfast (fri-sun) more relaxed than the KB stint. Perhaps because Anna and Jacqui seem to get on genuinely and are more willing to allow more air time to Gareth
