The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

I suspect it'll be someone already on the books rather than a big name commanding a bigger salary. Sky tend to promote from within rather than poach too when it comes to presenting talent.

That was the rumours last year especially when he signed up to present the EFL Cup for Sky but if he did sign up to Soccer Saturday.  It is a big decision and personally I think it would be a wrong decision as he would lose Saturday 5 Live Sport presenting all kinds of sports from the Grand National to Masters Golf, Premier League, 6 Nations as well as Rugby League for the BBC TV as most of their matches is on Saturday and could slip down the BBC pecking and he must be in line to replace Lineker if he does leave at the end of his contract.

That would seem a logical move I would conclude. But on the other hand I think he was quite critical of Qatar in and around the World Cup (ditto his comments on homophobia and Ukraine in his farewell video from Sky above).

Logan, Jenas or Scott are the three most likely to replace Linekar.

It doesn’t sound he has signed any deals yet. I get the feeling from previous comments he might not want to actually live in Qatar.

Another major sports broadcasting retirement announcement over the weekend was Ted Walsh stepping down after 40 years as part of RTE's horse racing presentation team. But 2 of his children - Ruby and Katie - are there to continue to carry the Walsh flag on their coverage.
