The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

Came on line about a week or two ago, and about time at this stage (and I’d say the Viaplay social media staff who have had to field Premier Sports queries without any info are probably happy too!). The website is actually quite similar to the old PS one with a bit of a lick of paint (the same paint…).

Looks like Premier will be doing wrap around coverage for the URC final tomorrow, which will be their first studio coverage of anything other than Premier League football since the split from the U.K. operation. Meanwhile, Viaplay will be teaming up with SuperSport to do a joint production of the match.

Other rugby broadcasting news:
Miles Harrison & Nick Mullins will commentate on the Premiership final on ITV & BT Sport tomorrow. A rather nice interview with them together below:

And the Barbarians v. World XV match at Twickenham on Sunday will be shown on the rather unexpected location of Channel 5. It will be their first rugby broadcast since they lost/didn't renew the Premiership FTA rights two years ago.

Two more Premier League final day picks: Sky will be showing Villa v Brighton, while Premier Sports (ROI only) pick up Brentford v Man City.

Jack Nicholls, having departed Formula E's world feed coverage in a surprise move earlier this week, will now no longer take part in the remainder of the BBC's coverage of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. He will be replaced by Tom Gaymor.

I'm wondering if there's health or other personal issues here - his F1 preview was from IMG at Stockley Park, rather than on site, but the lack of any personal statement raises some questions. Not that it's necessarily our business, of course.

Premier Sports, back in the studio they share with Viaplay and of course acting as if the last six months of no studio coverage hasn’t happened - Connor Morris, long time veteran of Setanta/eir/Premier coverage is anchoring, with Dan Leavy and David Wallace in the studio, with Ryle Nugent and Andrew Trimble set to commentate.

Unconfirmed reports circulating that Prime Video have won the rights to the Six Nations team’s Rugby World Cup warm up games in the U.K. at least.

At the end of yesterday's live WSL game on BBC One, Alex Scott said that "BBC will have coverage of the Women's World Cup this summer", though this comment was not replicated in the highlights programme last night.

Methinks a jumping of the embargo gun here by Ms Scott (if one assumes it's a done deal); I suspect an official announcement in the next few days, with full plugs (by both BBC and ITV) during next Saturday's FA Cup Final coverage.

"Coverage" nowadays though can just be live updates on the website as far as the BBC is concerned.
