The Sport Thread - For stuff not worthy of a thread of its own

A bit odd that BBC Two didn't show the Diamond League athletics today. They were showing nothing of note (a film then repeats of the usual daytime fare) between 3pm and 5pm and I think almost every other (if not every other) event since the BBC regained the live rights to every event in 2020/21 has had live coverage on BBC Two, Three, Four or the Red Button. BBC Two Northern Ireland showed GAA action from 15:30 but I'd doubt if that would have been a consideration for network. I don't believe there was any big British names competing (I haven't yet completed watching it), and the usual continuty presenters for the athletics were also likely busy (Tom Gayle (Wimbledon Red Button), Sarah Mulkerrins (GAA for BBC NI) and Jane Dougall (likely on her way to the Women's World Cup)) but I'm not sure if those would be major factors either in a decision.

It does get two linear airings on the Red Button tomorrow evening.

Usually the Diamond League coverage airs on BBC Three, and is only on One or Two for the UK edition and the Grand Final (though it only got 30 minutes coverage last year as it was what got interrupted on Two on the day that the Queen died)

The Diamond League is in London in two weeks time, so presumably it'll get its annual outing on One that week

London next week is indeed scheduled for BBC One at 13:15 next Sunday.

Stockholm a fortnight ago was a Sunday 17:00-19:00 slot that also aired on BBC Two, whilst Doha back in early May was on a Friday before BBC Thre/Four came on air and was once again on Two, so today was the exception rather than than the standard for any event that takes place before 19:00 BST.

Quite the desk on the BBC GAA coverage. Inspired by the former style of BBC Spirt desk, but far from an exact copy.

BBC2 usually air it if it's outside of BBC3 hours.

BBC Scotland has extended their agreement with the SPFL until 2029. They will continue to air Premiership highlights, live Championship games, radio commentaries and online clips on an extension to what was due to end in 2025.

S4C will show live coverage online of Chelsea v. Wrexham from North Carolina on Thursday morning, with highlights on the linear channel later that evening.

Presumably the BBC didn't think it worthwhile up against Wimbledon and/or wanted to offer a non-sport alternative

Not quite the first time. Silesia last year was in the same position as it was during the Commonwealth Games. Think Monaco in 2021 as well since there was live programming on BBC2 and BBC4 already, and no BBC3 to use

Channel 4 Sport have their annual clip from the British Grand Prix commentary box at Silverstone. Alex Jacques has put in the passion to make it a great commentary once again. The music that came with these compilations of clips make it seem like a good choice.

Guessing with Gabby doing the World Cup that Janette will likely host both the Diamond League meeting and World Championships.

Will be interesting then if the BBC continue with that arrangement for the Olympics - arguably Gabby would be more useful hosting a bigger chunk of the daily coverage. Given the longer shifts of recent games Hazel in the morning, Gabby in the afternoon and Clare in the evening would work well enough with other talent anchoring from venues.
